South East Gender Initiative
The South East Gender Initiative opened on 31st October 2011. The organisation was formed by Hilary Cooke, Peter Moorcraft, Jacqui Alyn-Stacey, Martin Weeds, to provide support services for the Trans community. SEGI is a legacy project following on from work developed by Hilary Cooke and Peter Moorcraft for the XESGEN Project and NHS Medway Public Heath Team from 1993 to 2011.
Medway Gender & Sexual Diversity Centre, managed by SEGI, opened in Rochester 31st January 2014 as an umbrella organisation supporting LGBTQI groups who provide support services for the LGBTQI communities of Medway & Kent.
The MGSD Centre was the first Trans / Non-binary gender identity drop-in centre based in Medway Kent. We also provide services for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Pansexual people and work with other LGBTQI+ and health and wellbeing organisations delivering services in Medway & Kent.
SEGI / MGSDC promotes awareness of, and provides practical services for Trans, Transgender, Non-Binary Gender, Gender Non-conforming, Gender Diverse people, and Parents / Carers of Trans Children in Medway and Kent and South East through peer support, mentoring and advice, delivered from the Rochester based drop-in facility, the Medway Gender and Sexual Diversity Centre (MGSDC) 331 High Street, Rochester, Medway, Kent ME1 1DA.
